Coggiola Carrozziere

The Carrozzeria Coggiola is an automotive and aeronautical body shop based in Turin active since 1966.

HISTORY

It was in that year that this body was founded by Sergio Coggiola, a character whose talent for industrial automotive design has matured after 14 years at the service of Ghia as a draftsman and as chief technical office.
In 1969 the Coggiola bodywork began a collaboration with the Swedish Saab, a long collaboration that would have yielded very interesting fruits, both in terms of series production (Saab Sonett III and Saab 9000), both as regards some prototypes (for example the Saab 98 Combi Coupé).
In the seventies, in addition to continuing the collaboration with the Saab, the Coggiola also took care of other jobs, especially in the field of prototypes. Thus were born prototypes based on Lancia Fulvia, Volvo P1800 and Pontiac Grand Prix.
Even the following years were full of activities for the Coggiola body, which produced other prototypes such as the Citroën Visa cabrio and several prototypes based on Audi. It is dated 1988 the Renault prototype called Mégane, which a few years later will give its name to one of the best sellers of the French house. The same goes for the two-year-old Scénic prototype.
One of the peculiarities of the Coggiola bodywork was the study of bodywork according to parameters related to safety and torsional rigidity.
The nineties saw the birth of prototypes of various brands (Fiat, Lancia, Opel, etc.). There have also been experiments on Mercedes-Benz bases. Famous was the modular prototype VRC, practically a car with removable and replaceable pavilion with another of different shape to vary the type of body while maintaining the same car. In the same decade there are also prototypes of more “noble” brands, such as Bentley and Aston Martin.
Even the years 2000 were very prolific: the T-Rex prototype, a large SUV, is significant, as is also the prototype Toyota 735N, a sort of minivan from the very profiled pavilion.
The activity of Coggiola is not only dedicated to the automotive world, but also to the aeronautical one, especially in the helicopter field.
