HISTORY

A Miura was born from the passion for the Lamborghini cars by Aldo Besson and Itelmar Gobbi, for the Italian-Brazilian partners who owned a steel-working company, the “Bresson & Gobbi”, a manufacturer of workbenches and equipment for mechanics and tire builders In 1966 in Porto Alegre.

By the mid-1970s, Besson and Gobbi decided to build a prototype car, with piano and mechanics “Maggiolone” and fiberglass bodywork. The line, inspired by “Urraco”, was designed by the young student of Nilo Laschuk architecture and the mechanical part was handled by specialist Mariano Brubacher.

The result was aesthetic and technical, and the car was exhibited in “Bresson & Gobbi” at Salão do Automóvel in Sao Paulo in 1976. The prototype was conceived as a dream car to improve the image of the company , But the purchase proposals have been so numerous to convince the two members to produce it in a small series, founded the new brand called “Miura”, in honor of the Lamborghini model of the same name.

The Miura Sport sales began in 1977 and the company was immediately subordinated to orders, which was met by employing a large part of the workers in the construction of the new product. Soon the unexpected automotive builder completely absorbed the company that in 1979 was forced to build a new site, ranging from 1200 to 4,000 m² and doubling the original 60 workers. Miura’s success was largely due to the strong restrictions imposed by the Brazilian government on the import of cars, limiting the choice of buyers to the few national models produced mainly by Fiat, Volkswagen and FNM.

Production continued at a high rate until 1980, when 600 were sold, many of which were exported to various Latin American countries. Between the last months of 1980 and the first 1981, the now-established Miura deployed the productive potential with large inventory of components to be assembled and new machinery, preparing for a sharp increase in production. However, he was surprised by the sudden and heavy Brazilian economic crisis of 1981, which led to the brink of bankruptcy.

Besson and Gobbi did not win for the winners and, awaiting better times, they began to realize the prototype of the Miura Targa, always designed by Laschuk, inspired by the Mazda RX-7, on Volkswagen Passat mechanics. Presented in 1982, the “Targa” was promptly demanded, and with the improvement of the economic situation, I will become more and more, representing Miura’s best selling with nearly 4,000 specimens. In addition, the following Spider, Kabrio, Saga, “787”, “X8” and “X11” were derived from this model, consistently featuring sophisticated, technologically and sometimes extravagant components and accessories Or, anyway, very flashy.

In 1990, car import restrictions were eliminated and it became apparent immediately that it was impossible to compete with models built in Europe and Japan.

Miura’s production ceased in 1992, counting a total of 10,600 machines built, converting to a company specializing in the restoration and transformation of car models of the sixty.
